Originally I thought that the artistic film and business film is separated in the entertainment industry. I prefer to see a more artistic film that could make enough spaces for the audiences to have their own fantasy. But now I understand that art and business can be merged at the same time. And everything in the entertainment industry requires money. That is the reality of the industry. I understand much more about the entertainment industry in a different way.
When studying about the television program. I always think about why Hong Kong’s television industry is at a low level. It may because of the diversity of television programme. It is hard for every program could be good as film. But meanwhile there is lots of good television programme produced when more money support or a success of the programme model. The success of MasterChef tells me how the good programme is produced with the good marketing strategy and the content statifing with the local audience.
Form the discovering of the independent film. I found out that the support from government and the society is much more than I thought. But it still not popular because of less audience only. The film category and the style makes it hard to promote to the audience. It is all about the business plan. The independent film cannot get enough support from the investors because of the artistic category. It is risky for the investors unless they can see the potential of winning any award that can help them to promote and gain more revenue.
The whole entertainment industry is a business. After that is the artistic. Artistic and filming style is not important as the business because the awards is limited. I studied different business models of different film category and the film festival. It shows that the whole industry is base on the money. Like the cyberpunk film “Ghost in the Shell(2017)” needs lots of CG on the film and the “Lord of the Ring” series also. Sometimes the filmmaker has to get enough money to support that to create the fantasy image in their mind.
Not everyone is Wong Kar-Wai that create the good and artistic film without the computer graphic or special effects. And also the actors requires lot of money to hire them also. So I understand the the entertainment industry is base on business first and this is the most memorable in my mind in this semester.
